* Britain carried out tests, recorded on film, to show the integration of air and ground warfare. The Royal Air Force had just carried out its first independent operation, against the mountain strongholds of tribesmen in South Waziristan, Pakistan. But it was decided soldiers were too exposed to bullets from aircraft and it was proposed they be equipped with new bullet-proof helmets and specially-designed light body armour.
