* Britain carried out tests, recorded on film, to show the integration of air and ground warfare. The Royal Air Force had just carried out its first independent operation, against the mountain strongholds of tribesmen in South Waziristan, Pakistan. But it was decided soldiers were too exposed to bullets from aircraft and it was proposed they be equipped with new bullet-proof helmets and specially-designed light body armour.
* John Bassett, the Canadian member of the Empire Press Delegation, declared himself most unimpressed by the level of industrial disruption in Australia. He said that he was "disgusted" by what he saw and that it would not be tolerated "for 10 minutes" in his native country. One of the chief instruments of the labour movement in Australia appeared to be "the strike". He said that strike leaders lacked patriotism, to the extent they should be denounced as traitors.* Britain celebrated the centenary of the railway. Celebrations featured historical trains leaving from various stations, including Liverpool. The opening of the Stockton and Darlington Railway in northern England was on September 27, 1825. * Reform aldermen on Sydney City Council were preparing to put to the council there should be a "Greater Sydney", incorporating the municipalities of Vaucluse, Woollahra, Waverley, Paddington, Redfern, Chippendale, Botany, Mascot, Alexandria, St Peters, Erskineville, Newtown, Darlington and Glebe. Moves were to be put in place to immediately incorporate Waterloo Council.
