POLICE are investigating claims that Des Moran was involved in a violent confrontation with the two women charged over his murder just weeks before he was shot dead on Monday in the Melbourne suburb of Ascot Vale.Detectives were told Judy Moran suffered minor injuries in the incident. They were also told that Des Moran turned on Suzanne Kane, the sister of Jason Moran's widow, during the dispute, accusing her of being partially responsible for the underworld war. Police are also investigating claims there was a dispute after Des Moran refused to pay Judy Moran any further money earlier this year.As the police investigation into Monday's killing continued, the man accused of gunning down Des Moran appeared in the Melbourne Magistrate's Court yesterday sporting a black eye and a cut over his eyebrow.Geoffrey Leslie Armour, 43, pointed to his injuries as he entered court but then crouched behind a wall, apparently trying to protect his identity. As sketch artists worked furiously to capture Armour's image, his defence counsel objected to the publication of any sketches or photographs of him, arguing that identity could be a key issue in the case. Police supported the objection. They will set up an information caravan near the murder scene to seek more witnesses and it was felt that if images of Armour were made public they could influence witnesses.Police are hunting for another alleged hitman and the person who drove the getaway car.The court agreed to a suppression order on Armour's image because its publication could risk contaminating evidence. Armour's next court date is September 9, when Judy Moran and Suzanne Kane are also due to appear.
